Women’s ice hockey within our club is receiving another great boost. The Sharks Women Mechelen are preparing for a new season in which ambition, development and competition will take center stage. With a strengthened coaching duo, international experience on the ice and participation in several competitions, an exciting season lies ahead.
Strengthened Coaching Duo
This season, the Sharks Women will be led by Tim Vos and Serge Gestels. Tim Vos joins the coaching staff, bringing additional experience and expertise to the team, particularly thanks to his many years as a coach of the Belgian Women’s National Team.
Together, they will guide the players through a season in which the Sharks Women will compete on several fronts.
International Competition in Germany
One of the challenges this season will be participation in the German competition. To further strengthen the team, the Sharks Women can count on two international players who live in Belgium.
Simina Iasminne Maissa, a 21-year-old Romanian player who joined the team during the second half of last season, will continue to wear the Sharks colours this season. She has already represented Romania at four World Championships with the national team.
We also welcome 18-year-old Kolbrun Bjornsdottir, a player from Akureyri, Iceland, who is moving to Belgium and will strengthen our team. She has represented Iceland at four U18 World Championships and three Senior World Championships with the national team.
With this international experience, the team gains not only additional quality, but also a valuable wealth of experience at international level.

Back in the Dutch Eredivisie
The Sharks Women will also face strong competition in the Netherlands. The team will compete in the Eredivisie, the highest level in the current Dutch competition structure.
Thanks to their final appearance last season, the Sharks secured their place in the Eredivisie. Another series of high-level games therefore awaits, providing the team with an excellent opportunity to continue developing and pursue its ambitions.

Defending the Belgian Cup Title
The Belgian Cup is also on the schedule. And there is something to defend: last season, the Sharks Women were crowned Belgian Cup champions.
This season, the Sharks will once again go all out to win the Belgian Cup. Can our ladies retain their title? That will certainly be one of the exciting challenges of the new season.
Room for Development
Alongside the first team, the club continues to focus on the further development of women’s ice hockey. That is why we are working on establishing a Development Team.
The club is still looking for players who would like to join this team and further develop their skills within women’s ice hockey.
The Development Team will give players the opportunity to gain experience, improve their skills and progress within the club.
A Promising Season Ahead
With a strengthened coaching staff, international players, participation in the German competition, a place in the Dutch Eredivisie and the ambition to defend the Belgian Cup title, there is plenty to look forward to for the Sharks Women Mechelen.
At the same time, Sharks Mechelen continues to invest in the development of women’s ice hockey. At both the highest level and through the Development Team, the club aims to provide players with opportunities to grow, develop and achieve great results together.
