Starting with ice hockey? Begin on the ice!
Would you like to learn to play ice hockey? Then you're very welcome at Sharks Mechelen!
If you want to start playing ice hockey, it's important to first learn to skate properly. A solid skating technique is, after all, the foundation of ice hockey. That's why you can join the weekly skating lessons on Saturdays at ISCM ice rink, during the skating season from the end of September to the end of March.
The skating lessons are given by experienced figure skating coaches who will teach you the right skating techniques. In addition, experienced ice hockey coaches will guide you through your first steps with a stick and puck on the ice. This way, you get to know the basics of ice hockey in a fun and safe way.
Learn to Skate - Starters
The Learn to Skate sessions take place on Saturdays from 12:45 to 13:45.
During these lessons you'll learn the first principles of skating. You'll work on your balance, skating posture, skating forwards and backwards, stopping, turning and other important basic techniques.
For those who would like to learn ice hockey, guidance is also provided by experienced ice hockey coaches. They'll introduce you to the stick and puck and teach you the first basic skills of ice hockey.
After every Learn to Skate session, there is a public skating session immediately afterwards. You can join this to get some extra practice, further improve your skating technique, or simply have fun on the ice with your friends.
You can register for Learn to Skate via the ice rink's website. Go to www.iscm.be/nl/kalender, choose your preferred Saturday and look for the Learn to Skate activity.
Ready for the next step?
You don't need to be able to skate perfectly right away. The coaches follow your progress and determine when you have enough experience to make the switch to ice hockey.
When the coaches feel that you're ready for the next step, they'll refer you to Sharks Mechelen. You'll then be invited to take part in three trial trainings with our youth teams.
During this trial period, you'll get the chance to get to know our coaches, your future teammates and, of course, real ice hockey. On Tuesday, you'll be welcomed by our recruitment manager. Together, you'll look at what equipment you need and how we can make sure you start your first training well prepared. On Thursday, you can take part in a youth training session.
After three trial trainings, you can decide whether you want to join Sharks Mechelen permanently.
Don't have your own ice hockey equipment? No problem!
During the trial trainings, you can use ice hockey equipment from the club, subject to a small deposit. If you then become a member of Sharks Mechelen, you can continue to rent this equipment until you have your own gear. Together we'll look at the best solution for you at that time, so you don't need to buy a full set of ice hockey equipment right away just to get to know the sport.
Do you have questions or would you like more information about the trial trainings? Then get in touch with Sharks Mechelen via office@sharksmechelen.be.
From your first steps on the ice to your first ice hockey training: Sharks Mechelen is happy to help you get started!
